4th Annual Nitto NMCA-NMRA All-Star Nationals

Ever have a long off season? As is the case some times, we have had quite a rough one. But finish work on the car and the practically new engine coming in within the last week before the race set us up to hit the Flowmaster NMCA series points race #2 in Commerce, GA at the terrific facility of Atlanta Dragway!

Missing points race #1 set us on a mission to eek into the points situation in the remaining 6 events.

The weekend started off well with only minor, more irritating than anything, issues but the car ran exactly as we commanded and brought our level of excitement up from the long hard off season.

Saturday, mid-day, in qualifying we were able to seed #6 spot of the 15 entries. The engine “gremlin” wouldn’t go away. Alas.. the car was turned over to the pros at ProLine (no pun intended) Racing engines in Ball Ground, GA in lieu of attempting to enter competition limping.

With that said we came home with a few points, no car, and a keen curiosity as to what the gremlin was. What was the answer? A minor parts malfunction from a very large scale vendor. You know what they say, “It happens!”

The third race of the season was challenge to make.  Our crash at Atlanta left a lot of work for the team to complete in a short period of time.  Thanks to all the hard work from the crew (Randy, Kevin, Gram, Wade) we were able to put the car back together.  Although we hate to wreck the car, this was a good time to test the value of our insurance company.  Bill Lutz is our agent for Central Ohio Insurance Services and they were very professional and took care of every aspect of he claim.  Without their support, we would have struggled with the funding necessary to fix the car.

Although we struggled with major tire shake all weekend, we were able to sneak our way into the finals against Murillo.  Needless to say we didn’t have the performance this weekend to win, but we gave a good effort with a 7.01 against a winning 6.71.  We however did have some issues with the motor afterwards were we found a broke spring and lifted head gaskets.  Four of our cylinders were leaking majorly so our perofrmance in the finals was expected to be down.

Again, thanks to all the hard work of the crew we were able to end of in the finals for the first time in Mitchell Motorsports history.  The engine is at Proline as we speak and they made it their number 1 priority to complete. Thanks to Eric and the guys at Proline for their support.  We will be ready for Chicago.!

Atlanta – Results

The second race of the season we were looking forward to putting Bradenton resuls behind us.  We worked hard to get ready for the race and everything was looking great.  We rolled the car off the trailer at Test-n-Tune and ran a very soft tune.  The car ran beautiful and straight on the first pass with a 6.83 @ 215 mph.  However, chute failure at the end of the track made stopping a challenge for Kevin and although he did everything he could to save it, the car eventually came around and smacked the wall at over 100 mph. We did some major damage to our turbos and tubing and was unable to continue.Atlanta Crash

Atlanta wasn’t very friendly to 10.5 Super Street outlaw where three cars hit the wall including Meshaw and Murillo.  Also Tony Nesbit had a major fire at the starting line and we are happy to report he was fine.

Bradenton – Results

The first race of 2011 season was very challenging for Mitchell Motorsports. We had issues with oil leaks and traction was an issue on a greasy track, however we were able to qualify in the top.  We were ready for a good results in the eliminations.  Needless to say, part failure on the first round against John Lastinger allowed them to move forward to the next round.  In fact, Frank Meshaw was unable to stage the next round and John was able to go to the finals against Murrilo.  It should have been Mitchell Motorsports but these things happen.

Our Proline engine and Southern Speed tune was producing power and we would have been a contender.  Thanks to everyone for their hard work and we have already fixed the issue.

It’s an exciting time for Mitchell Motorsports as we begin the 2012 NMCA Super Street 10.5 season.  Our 2002 Chevrolet Camaro 10.5 outlaw is ready and the team is set to with the introduction of the new twin turbo outlaw 10.5 camaro. We’d like to share our drag racing experiences with you now on the web.

We are proud to announce Mitchell Motorsports in March edition of Fastest Street Car (FSC) magazine and Chevy Hiperformance Magazine.

We have been working hard to obtain the necessary help that is needed to run at this level.  Mitchell Motorosports like every major race program needs dedicated companies and teammates to be successful.  As always, Mitchell Motorsports is looking for sponsors but we are proud and dedicated to our current sponsors.  We would like to thank:

Wade Hopkins (SouthernSpeed)– Wade stepped up this season and was a valuable asset to our race team. His overall turbo knowledge, engine/car tuning and overall wizard capabilities clearly identifies him as a master in his trade. Mitchell Motorsports would recommend Wade to anyone who is looking for a turbo expert.

TCI (Stanely & Jeff) – With all this horsepower, needless to say we need all the transmission and converter performance to put this power on the ground. TCI R&D stepped up last year and has worked hard with us to provide the equipment necessary for the performance to compete. Our partnership continues to be very strong this year and we are very excited.

Eric Dillard (ProLine Engines)– ProLine Engines, Eric and Tim Lynch have always been there when we needed them.  The combination of Proline and SouthernSpeed produced a powerplant that is not short of power. As soon as we get all the chassis tuning under control, we should be able to produce some very impressive numbers. Thanks Eric and Tim.

iGY Technologies, LLC– One of the main reasons Mitchell Motorsports has the funds to move forward.  iGY Technologies, LLC (iGY), a current IBM Business Partner, is a leader in the development and integration of ecommerce software applications using IBM WebSphere Commerce Suite. Our extensive business experience make it easy to see why you can depend on us to help you increase revenues, reduce costs and protect your brand.

Matt Vaughn Motorsports Marketing– Matt was acquired to bring Mitchell Motorsports sponsorship opportunities.  Matt offers a variety of sponsorship marketing services including the creation of sponsorship proposals, brochures, press releases, and more. In addition he does represent teams, racers and events seeking SERIOUS sponsorship on a retainer plus commission basis.

As always, we would not be success without the team. A special thanks to:

Kevin Mitchell – What else can be said, the boy can drive. Kevin has been driving for many years, however, last year was a whole different challenge. Driving a nitrous car versus a turbo car took many hours of retooling, but he has proven over and over capable of driving anything. Congratulations on breaking into the 200mph club.  Kevin will continue to prove why he is a great driver and we are lucky to have him as ours.

Randy Mitchell (Dad) – Like Kevin, he has been involved in racing over 20 years. His commitment to keeping the car together from all those violent tire shakes and assuring a beautiful car, makes us all proud to own.

Graham Hill– Master of many trades. Graham (Cracker) has been with us for many years and his commitment, hard work and overall can-do attitude gives us the help desperately needed. Gram’s personality keeps many of us “hot” heads in check.

Tim Mitchell– One of the reasons Mitchell Motorsports has the drive to win.  Tim provides the leadership, scheduling and support of the Mitchell Motorsport team.

Thank You, Mitchell Motorsports! View Our Recent News Here:
